Sustainability and Caring for the Environment at Banchory Lodge
At Banchory Lodge, caring for our surroundings isn’t an add-on—it’s part of who we are. The Scottish landscape is at the heart of what we do. It inspires us, grounds us, and reminds us of our responsibility to protect it. Sustainability shapes how we run the lodge, guiding how we care for our guests, our team, and the wider community.
We work closely with local suppliers who share our values, supporting the community while reducing our environmental impact. Recycling is a big part of our efforts: glass, cans, and plastics are collected by the local authority, while paper, cardboard, wood, and food waste are turned into compost. Compost that we then use across the estate grounds. We also actively look for ways to reduce water usage in bedrooms and bathrooms and minimize single-use plastics throughout the lodge.
We’re proud to work alongside organisations like the Forestry Commission Scotland, RSPB, and the Scottish Beekeepers Association to protect local wildlife. You’ll even find hedgehog hotels tucked around the grounds and wildflowers planted to attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
Our Green Team helps turn these good intentions into everyday actions, and we encourage our guests to join in with simple steps:
Please don’t leave taps running unnecessarily.
Place newspapers, bottles, and cans beside your bin for recycling.
Leave towels on the floor if you’d like them replaced; otherwise, hang them on the rail.
Switch off lights when not in use.
These steps may seem small, but together they reflect a bigger vision: to grow, improve, and leave a lighter footprint on the world we love. Sustainability isn’t just a policy at Banchory Lodge—it’s a promise. A promise to our environment, our guests, and our future.
If you have questions, comments, or suggestions about our environmental practices, we’d love to hear from you at enquiries@banchorylodge.com.
